Aleppo

The principal city of northern Syria, Aleppo was the chief marketplace of the Middle East during the 16th and 17th centuries. It is now the largest city in Syria. Aleppo is located about 60 miles (100 kilometers) from both the Mediterranean Sea (to the west) and the Euphrates River (to the east).
