Understanding Poetry in Music

Welcome to our first lesson, where we dive into the world where music meets poetry. Today, we're going to uncover the tools, known as poetic devices, that songwriters use to make their lyrics resonate and stick with us.

Let's learn about some of the most used poetic devices.

Metaphor

When we describe something by saying it is something else, that's a metaphor. It helps make descriptions more vivid.

Simile

Similar to metaphors, similes compare two things using 'like' or 'as.'

Alliteration

This is when words start with the same sound. It's catchy and helps make the lyrics memorable.

Rhyme

Rhymes are words that end in the same sound and are fundamental in songs, creating a rhythm.

Repetition

Repeating words or phrases emphasizes ideas or feelings, making sure they are important to the listener.

Have you used any of these poetic devices in your writing?
