One way to become a better writer is to read good writing. Since we will be writing a character analysis essay at the end of the unit you will be reading character analysis essays to help you prepare.

This week read "It's on Like Donkey Kong" by Alan Gratz from Breakfast on Mars and 37 other Delectable Essays.

For this writing lesson, you are going to use the notes that you made about the main characters of the book to make stick figures. Watch this video for some insight into this process.

Writing Assignment:

• Gather the notes you made as you were reading about the characters. These will help you draw the character.
• Draw the three main characters (Hester Prynne, Pearl, Roger Chillingworth) using what you learned about stick figures in the video. Sticky notes size is perfectly acceptable!
• Label your drawings with the characters' names.
• Put these drawings and your notes in your notebook. You will continue using them as you progress through the book.
